Gentle Healing with Art

Updated: Oct 13

Dear purple butterflies,

As you recall in Tearing off my bandage, I spoke about my art background. I’ve always hated the fact I never got the chance to obtain my teacher’s certificate. Have you ever wanted to learn how to draw, but you were not sure where to start? What would you say, if I told you something very exciting is happening? In our world, we’re never sure what tomorrow will bring. As a fellow warrior, I can understand how you are feeling. After a lot of planning, hard work, and determination, I am proud to announce my newest project: Gentle Healing with Art.

Gentle Healing with Art will allow you, as the student to receive virtual art lessons through Facebook Messenger! Each week I will work with you in an art session of your choosing: drawing or acrylic painting. How cool is that? Your lessons can be much more than learning how to draw. The pieces of art I create, have always been a personal form of therapy. My art sessions will both be therapeutic, educational and entertaining.

Here are just some of the sketches you can find on my art studio page:

Early charcter development sketch of Frannie May done in pencil.

Early character development sketch of my first character, Jolie. It is done in pencil.

This is a 10 second gestural sketch done in marker.

This is a 5 second gestural sketch done in marker.

Based on the fact my back-pain struggles continue, it only seems fitting my studio opens up during the month of September. I guess you could say there is a reason for the name gentle healing. I am extremely excited that I will get to share my love of art! Between doctor visits, and figuring out our plan of action, it’s been a rough couple of months. Like so many others, 2020 was not a good year to need non-emergency medical help. Until my surgery date is reconfigured, I will crave some personal healing time. What kind of things do you do for your healing time? Do you have any hobbies that distract you from your pain? As always, I’d love to hear from you!

Please continue to stay safe purple butterflies! Till next time! Be well!

~ Rachel
